I found my summer hymn for 2026, even though it‘s still freezing at night in Berlin, I don‘t care.
Ever since I stumbled into Cumbia overlords Supermerk2 a couple years ago, this genre provides me with a never ending stream of happiness. Part of it is the joy which makes discovering an artist, musician, director or similar so exciting, because I tap into territory that I am absolutely clueless about. Especially, like in the case of Cumbia, when it spreads over so many countries in Latin America that all have their own style.
When A.Chal was recommended by my insatiable Youtube algorithm, I was immediately enticed to push back my office chair and put these rusty German hips to better use. In all seriousness, there should be a TV show where contestants get rewarded when they manage to not give in to various infectious grooves. I‘d watch that.
The music video for CHOLOGANTE, shot by DP Kevin Marqezzi, unapologetically throws you right into the thick of it, no introduction necessary. Spectacularly set on top of a mountain overseeing a city, A. Chal and band are performing backed by massive speakers and evening sun. Now the only thing missing is actually warm sun light in Berlin and we‘re good to go.
